Plant People: Episode 2
Better Lawns
Plant People—a new podcast from NYBG and PRX Productions featuring NYBG’s CEO & President, Jennifer Bernstein—connects the dots between nature and humanity through lively conversations with plant scientists and curators, gardeners and naturalists, and other experts. In episode two, we chat with landscape designer Edwina von Gal, founder of Perfect Earth Project, for an exploration of America’s love of grass, its historic roots as a ubiquitous plant, and her advocacy for toxic-free landscaping. Then we dig into how changing our relationship with our lawns can help these landscape features be part of the solution to some of our most pressing environmental problems. We’ll explore lawn alternatives, the “Bee Lawn” and “No Mow May” movements, and other ways we can turn suburban America’s landscapes into a force for the good of our environment.
