THROUGHOUT AMAZONIA, BRAZIL NUT TREES ARE OFTEN
ASSOCIATED WITH HUMAN HABITATION

The tallest tree is a Brazil nut tree; the palms are Euterpe oleracea, the source of edible fruits and palm hearts; and the tree in flower just below the Brazil nut tree is Couma utilis (sorva), the source of a white latex used in making chewing gum and to caulk boats.
