The yellow colors, silky and cuspidate pileus distinguish this rhodophyll macroscopically. As in the related species, Nolanea quadratum, the basidiospores are also quadrate or cuboid and conspicuous cheilocystidia are present. In the past, this taxon has been called Entoloma cuspidatum in Eastern North America.
