“He turned to me with a huge smile on his face and said, ‘Grandma, trains fire me up!'”

From now until December 17, our visitors will be sharing their fondest memories from 20 years of the Holiday Train Show–some of them touching, some comical, and every one of them cherished. Come back to Plant Talk each day for a new story, which you can see after the jump along with a feature on one of the many replica New York City landmarks on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory–the Guggenheim Museum, Yankee Stadium, the Empire State Building and more.

As a bonus, read on to find out how you can win a Family Four-Pack of Holiday Train Show tickets for yourself!

The Biggest Fan

Last year I took my six-year-old grandson to New York City to see the Holiday Train Show. I don’t think there is a kid who loves trains more than my grandson. He plays with his Thomas train and the Polar Express all year long. Even though his grandfather is an airline pilot and his dad is in the aviation industry, my grandson will tell you he wants to be a “train driver” when he grows up.

We did all the typical tourist attractions at Christmas time in New York, but nothing could compare to his excitement when we walked into the Train Show. He turned to me with a huge smile on his face and said, “Grandma, trains fire me up!” He took pictures and watched the trains for almost two hours. It is an experience both of us will remember for a lifetime.

The Statue of Liberty

Statue of LibertyDesigned by Frederic Bartholdi in the neoclassical style, the Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The robed female figure represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, and has remained a symbol of independence and opportunity since its dedication in 1886.

Liberty Island is a popular destination for visitors to New York City to this day, regularly drawing over three million people a year.
