I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds.

I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.

Sleeping in the Forest ~ Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver (author’s site) is a real star amongst those who love to combine nature, gardening, flowers, and poetry. She was suggested both by the author of the Tumblr blog And So She Spins … and on Twitter by Valentine Bonnaire. Thank you for your suggestions!

How wonderful. A surreal experience in the forest. Well done!
