From daffodil season to tulip season and beyond, we have plenty of activities over the next three months to help make the most of the grounds as their brilliant colors return.

Our popular Culinary Kids Food Festival returns April 14 with a week-long, family-friendly food festival celebrating the relationships among plants, farms, and your favorite treats. Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden staff and the culinary team, Growing Chefs, will offer cooking demonstrations, recipes, and hands-on activities—with plenty of music and food tastings to add to the fun. Kids can fill up their Festival passports as they tinker with the science of kitchen chemistry and get to the root of foods at a variety of activity stations with themes like “The Chicken and the Egg” and “The Buzz on Bees Sweet Bees!” The daily 1 p.m. cooking demonstration will feature kid-friendly recipes and tasty samples, while local chefs will share tips and more.

But that is only the first in a full season of outdoor adventure. Read on for May and June’s exciting upcoming festivals!

For those couples looking for a refreshing afternoon, the weekend of May 3 & 4 has been set aside for the Spring Wine Festival in the Native Plant Garden. Visitors will sample from a flight of palate-pleasing local wines supplied by New York State vintners, while experts on winemaking and viticulture present their crafts. As guests sip their wine, expert guides will lead tours of the Native Plant Garden, where there will be live acoustic music and snacks available for purchase.

The Mother’s Day Weekend Garden Party in the Azalea Garden, May 10 & 11, will offer an afternoon of activities for parents and children alike. Kids can craft birds’ nests, Mother’s Day cards, and giant chalk drawings in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, and families can come together to fly kites, play croquet, or hop between our visiting food trucks and snack vendors. For the adults in the crowd, beer and wine will be available for toasting the occasion.

June 7 & 8 will welcome the Rose Garden Festival. Two days of live music, plant care demonstrations, tours with expert rosarians, and light summer refreshments will create a festive atmosphere amid the dazzling blossoms of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. It’s certainly the best way to admire 4,000 blooming plants at the height of their seasonal color.

Finally, we’ll close out spring with the Big Backyard BBQ & Music Festival, which is set to take over Daffodil Hill for Father’s Day weekend, June 14 & 15. Food and drink samplings from New York’s finest specialty purveyors come paired with family entertainment throughout the weekend, including live music, outdoor fun, and a selection of delectable barbecue styles. We’ll also have an array of local New York craft brews on hand to keep you cool!

This is just a small sampling of what’s to come during our spring of festival fun, so stay tuned for more as each event nears. Find more information and get tickets here for our upcoming festivals, and use the new season to create some loving memories.
