This Weekend: A Long Weekend for the Holiday Train Show’s Closing Days

Holiday Train Show NYBGNYBG will be open for regular Garden Hours this Monday, January 18, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the final day of this season’s Holiday Train Show®. Only three days remain to experience this all-new and bigger than ever exhibition, so plan a family outing to the Garden as you enjoy the long weekend! View the full schedule of programs and events for this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday below.

Don’t forget that there’s still time to grab tickets to our last Bar Car Nights of the year, tonight and tomorrow, January 15 and 16. And if you have little ones, remember that our All Aboard with Thomas & Friends mini-performances—not to mention the Evergreen Express activities in the Adventure Garden—will continue through January 24!


Saturday, January 16
Bar Car Nights at the Holiday Train Show

All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™ – 9 a.m. (Members Only Performance), 11 a.m., 1:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., & 5:30 p.m.

In the Ross Hall
Join Thomas and Driver Sam on a fun-filled, sing-along, mini performance adventure by helping them decorate the station in time for the big Sodor surprise party before the guest of honor arrives! Make sure to have a professional photo taken with Thomas to capture the special day! Seating is first-come, first-served, and begins 30 minutes prior to your show time. Your ticket includes access to the Holiday Train Show.

Please Note: Admission to the Thomas & Friends performance is included with the purchase of select Holiday Train Show tickets; specific timed tickets must be reserved.

Roaming Holiday Guides – 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
In the Conservatory
Learn more about the exhibition and model trains from our knowledgeable guides who will show up-close samples of the plant parts used to make buildings, reveal behind-the-scenes images of the show’s installation, and share other special insights.

Bird Walk – 11 a.m.
Meet by the Reflecting Pool
The diverse habitats of the Botanical Garden offer visitors a chance to see dozens of species of birds throughout the year. Bring your binoculars and walk the Garden grounds with an expert to learn about bird-friendly habitats, migrating species, and birds that make a permanent home at the Garden.

Winter Wonderland Tree Tour – 12:30 p.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool
Embark on an invigorating 45- minute walk to view the Garden’s stately conifer collection and old growth forest in the beauty of winter. Even in cold weather there’s plenty of interest in our gardens and collections.

Holiday A Cappella – 1:30 & 3:30 p.m.

In the Leon Levy Visitor Center
Celebrate the holiday spirit with a cappella musicians singing your favorite carols.

Garden Highlights Tour – 2:30 p.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center
Sights and scents flourish across the 250 acres of the Botanical Garden. Join a Garden Guide for a walking tour featuring highlights of the gardens and plant collections.

Bar Car Nights – 7–10 p.m.
Part of the Holiday Train Show
In the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory
Festive and fun outdoor activities set the scene for experiencing the Holiday Train Show during these nights for adults. Pick up a complimentary cocktail, beer, or glass of wine as you explore the Haupt Conservatory after dark, before heading outside for seasonal fun including live music, ice sculpting, and fire performances.

Non-Member $35/Member $25 (Adults 21 and over) Advance tickets recommended; includes one free drink

Notable Tree Tour – 12:30 p.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center
What makes a tree notable? It could be its size, its bark, its uses, or a variety of other features. Some of our trees have been here since before the Garden was formally established in 1891. Join one of the Garden’s Guides for a tour highlighting some of the most interesting trees across this historic 250-acre site.

Holiday Landmarks Tour – 2:30 p.m.
Meet by the Reflecting Pool
Meet at the Reflecting Pool for a fascinating overview of the Garden’s history and its importance as a vital NYC cultural destination since 1891. With an expert guide, explore the Allée, the Fountain of Life, and the Library. Then stroll along the Poetry Walk ending at the beloved Holiday Train Show The tour concludes at the Garden’s “must-see” destination… the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

Everett Children's Adventure Garden

Evergreen Express – Saturdays, 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
In the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
Hop aboard the Evergreen Express for lively activities in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, where each station stop offers something new to create or explore! Step into Discovery Center Depot to explore plant parts from assorted evergreens, as well as make herbarium pressings of a conifer specimen and craft a miniature scented sachet to take home. Create a train puppet inspired by master puppeteer Ralph Lee and join a musical marching parade (weekends and school holidays). Enjoy the wonders of winter as you explore the trails of the Adventure Garden on a hike in search of beautiful evergreen trees and shrubs, play on our kid-sized train engine, and put on a puppet show in the Woodland Theater.
