Here comes the color. Look to the trees for what’s beautiful now at NYBG—the leaves of the Forest and elsewhere in the Garden are making their move for fall at long last. In the Native Plant Garden, the Home Gardening Center, and Seasonal Walk, you’ll see the tried and true colors of the season coming through in flowers and foliage this week.

Dahlias continue to shine in the Home Gardening Center, Perennial Garden, and elsewhere in our collections, showing off their sunny faces as the weather cools. The autumn color palette is vivid and dynamic, shifting week to week as we move deeper into the season!

The changing leaves may only just be starting, but the fall encore of color in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is already well on its way. We expect to see a bit of a fireworks show from the collection this weekend in particular, and with the Spooky Pumpkin Garden, our Honey & Harvest Weekend, and Georgia O’Keeffe: Visions of Hawai‘i taking place at the same time, it’ll be the perfect time to stop into NYBG.

Rain and the occasional morning misting have left the Garden a rich landscape of vivid greens, from the mossy Forest surrounding the Native Plant Garden to the waving fronds of the Home Gardening Center. Take a stroll through our pre-fall paradise and soak up the shift in temperatures as we near the official start of the season!

The long summer sun won’t last much longer in our area. With only a few official weeks left of summer before the autumn equinox on September 22, we’re getting in as much time in the sunshine as possible, as are our collections. This week is likely your last opportunity to catch our late water lilies blooming in the Conservatory Pools, just as the dahlias in the Home Gardening Center become some of the highlights of September. The hibiscus and hydrangeas in the Perennial Garden are another bright spot amid the greenery.

The Conservatory Courtyards continue to show off with water lilies and container plantings in bloom, so don’t miss them! You’ll also find the neighborly Seasonal Walk and Perennial Garden just outside the Conservatory looking lovely as we head toward the final weeks of summer in the city. And if you have the opportunity, stop by the Edible Academy to catch our vegetables ripening—it’s sure to be a healthy harvest!

It might not be your first thought at the height of summer, but the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is once more looking almost springlike in its abundant color! Come out this week to wander among the many varieties, and wear your most floral patterns. If the shade is more your speed, the Native Plant Garden is your spot, where the woodland meets the water feature with a beautiful vista of summer’s greenery.

The rains have left the Garden green and vibrant this week, and summer’s favorites continue to show off in the outdoor collections. You can still catch some of the daylilies at peak bloom along Daylily Walk, and a handful of picture-perfect lotus flowers are holding court in the Conservatory Courtyards. Don’t miss the shady forested paths of the Native Plant Garden, either, where nodding ferns might convince you you’re anywhere but New York City.
