It’s just about time to ring the opening bell on the 11th annual Orchid Show, and as our horticulturists dab on the last soft touches of living color, there’s only one question to ask: do you have your tickets yet? It all begins this weekend, and we’ll be sure to see you there!

Because our Strongylodon macrobotrys is looking especially elegant in recent weeks, and because we’ve had at least a couple of requests for more pictures of it (via Twitter in particular), I figured I’d put together a sampling of the jade vine in all its unchallenged splendiferousness. You’re welcome to read more about the green and red jade vines here, but in the meantime, we’re perfectly content with you basking in the eye candy of this winter favorite. And if you hurry, you might even be able to see it for yourself in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

As of this past weekend, Tropical Paradise is retired for another year. But there’s something even more intriguing on the horizon, if you know what I mean. Thus begins the countdown to The Orchid Show!

I just….love ferns, tree ferns especially. You should, too! You’ll find some of ours hanging out in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, though the Native Plant Garden promises to have plenty of fringed beauties hanging around come the grand reopening. Keep an eye out for that one in early May.

Not all of our aquatic plants retired in early fall. You’ll still find a few beauties floating in the Conservatory as part of our Tropical Paradise exhibition!

I figure everyone’s had enough of the winter landscape for one week, so I thought we’d step inside the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for a teensy reminder that not all the world is an icebox right now.

Timpani drums and chorus lines may seem a bit dramatic for a flower exhibition–at least up until you see what’s been growing behind the doors of the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections! While Tropical Paradise winds down for another year, NYBG horticulturists are already hard at work on our next monumental event, prepping the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for the arrival of thousands upon thousands of technicolor beauties. For over a decade now, The Orchid Show has defined spring in New York, snapping us out of our winter doldrums and dropping us straight into shorts and sandals. And this year, we’re not missing a beat.
Under the curation of our Vice President of Glasshouses and Exhibitions, Francisca Coelho, The Orchid Show may just be the blockbuster of the year. We’re certainly buzzing with excitement at the thought of it. But maybe you need a small reminder of the myriad colors waiting for you come March.

I figured everyone could use more cozy imagery for a decidedly uncozy weekend. Don’t let the weather get you down, folks.

The jade vine is in bloom, at long last. You probably see us referring to this seafoam green siren at least a few times a year, and with good reason–it sports unmatched color and form. Few plants boast the kind of spontaneous annual following that this one’s earned. Look for it in the Conservatory!
