This week, Lederman’s Lens takes us through the Home Gardening Center and straight on to the Ladies’ Border, stopping at the Herb Garden on the way, where contrasting elements of picturesque, playful flowers and structured foliage create a theme of order and flair. Soft-profiled dahlias and clematis complement the more rigid elements of cardoon and yucca, offering the best of both aesthetics.
Consider this the latest installment in our “Fine Places to Take a Load Off” series. The sky is absurdly blue today and the thermometer reads “crisp”—find a spot to enjoy it. (You could easily do worse than the Herb Garden.)
“What’s that vine?” is a question I overhear frequently when strolling near the Herb Garden. Do you know what it is? Here’s a hint: Mmmmmmm … beer! Yep, that’s right, it’s none other than Humulus lupulus, aka hops, the bringer of tasty bitter flavors and preservation to one of mankind’s favorite beverages.
