Come visit the Garden this weekend to see a very special presentation occurring in Ross Hall this Saturday, a part of FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life. You’ll get to meet Mixtec weavers on their first trip to New York as they demonstrate the ancient art of weaving textiles using dye produced by an endangered purple sea snail. Only a handful of artisans possess the skills to harness the dye! After the presentation, their work will be available for purchase at Shop in the Garden.
We’ll also be featuring live music and dance from acclaimed performers Jarana Beat, a band that mixes Afro-Amerindian Mexican sounds with activist messages. You can also find screenings of films that celebrate the art and culture of Mexico. So grab your friends and family and head over to the Garden this weekend, and see for yourself what everyone is talking about!

With summer at its peak, there’s never been a better time to take a break from your sauna of a city apartment and head to NYBG—it’s a chance to get some walking in, stretch your legs, and enjoy the breezy shade!
The Garden right now is awash in greenery, from the swaying canopy of the Thain Family Forest to the wild abundance of Seasonal Walk. You’ll still find the Rose Garden blooming away, and the Perennial Garden is not only a place of poignant beauty, but of lyricism—our Poetry Walk features the writing of Octavio Paz in fine relief against the backdrop of flowers and foliage.
Not that the outdoor displays are all we have going on right now; FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life continues to draw thousands of New Yorkers and travelers alike to our exhibition of horticulture, fine art, music, and dance, and now’s the season to experience it all—when the landscape so nearly matches the florid abundance of the artist’s paintings!

Transport yourself to the wonderful world of Frida Kahlo this weekend! With FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life in full swing, there’s no time like the present to experience and celebrate the life of the great artist. See the world as Frida did in the Enid A. Conservatory, which re-imagines her home and garden, the Casa Azul, in Mexico City. Then visit the Mertz Library and view an exquisitely curated collection of rarely seen paintings by Frida Kahlo.
Hungry? Make reservations to the Hudson Garden Grill–equal parts picturesque and delicious. As of this week, the full-service farm-to-table restaurant at the Garden has an updated Frida-inspired menu designed by Chef Julian Alonzo.
And throughout the weekend there will be music, dance, and film screenings—all honoring Frida, Diego, and the country they called home. So come and spend some time enjoying the Garden’s summer landscape—we know it’s been on your seasonal bucket list!

This weekend, dine on a delicious meal arranged and prepared by esteemed chefs while enjoying the summer beauty of the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden during Family Dinners with Mario Batali’s Chefs–but act fast, as tickets to this Sunday event are selling like hot cakes! The dinner will feature a family-style, three-course menu alongside hands-on gardening and craft activities and live cooking demonstrations, the perfect occasion to introduce your kids to gourmet dining in a fun and open atmosphere.
Bask in the art and culture of Frida and her heritage throughout the rest of the weekend with live music and dance as well as an exclusive screening of Frida on Saturday and Guten Tag, Ramon on Sunday–all taking place at the Ross Hall.

Sunday happens to be the day that we show Dad how much we care, but NYBG’s starting things early with a Saturday night event! Tickets are still available for the Canciones de mi Padre (Songs of My Father) Concert on Saturday, June 20. This evening concert features The Villalobos Brothers and Humberto Flores, as well as Mexican soprano Gizel Xanath. La Casa Azul Taco Truck will be open, or you can enjoy the perfect Frida al Fresco evening by making a reservation at Hudson Garden Grill (final reservations at 5:45 p.m. unless otherwise noted) for a full-service dining experience in our newly opened restaurant. Each Frida al Fresco ticket includes a complimentary Modelo Especial draft cerveza or Jose Cuervo Tradicional margarita!
The Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden will have plenty of seasonal family activities, from Dig! Plant! Grow! to cooking demonstrations at the Whole Foods Market® Family Garden Kitchen. So, whenever you plan to start celebrating your Father’s Day Weekend, we’ll have something going to make it special.

September has kicked off to a beautiful start here at NYBG, which means there is still time to snap those enviable summer photos with your friends and family. From our Aquatic House to Mario Batali’s Kitchen Gardens, the scenery is so magnificent that a filter won’t be necessary.
Unlike the Garden’s luster, not everything across the 250 acres is everlasting. This weekend marks the end of the Garden-wide summer exhibition Groundbreakers: Great American Gardens and The Women Who Designed Them. With all of the Haupt Conservatory’s flowers and set pieces still looking as fresh as they did on day one, good luck not getting caught daydreaming of a sunny stroll through the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden in Maine. As one of the last gasps of summer, Labor Day weekend is a chance for NYBG to throw open its gates on a Monday and welcome everyone for what tends to be the closing week of our summer exhibition. And this year, things are no different—we’re rapidly approaching the September 7 end of our Groundbreakers exhibition! If you haven’t found a moment to get away and visit us here in the Bronx, now’s as good a time as any and maybe even better.
Those of you with kids in tow will be happy to know that we’re going full-tilt in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden with our SousaKazooza events, the last of the season. Bring your little ones for some music, marching, and crafts to keep them busy. And for the adults, we’re still offering our full suite of Groundbreakers events alongside a sweeping schedule of tours—Azalea Garden, Rock Garden, Conservatory, Native Plant Garden and Garden Highlights among them—to help you make the most of your afternoon.

This weekend features a very special Garden Highlights tour focusing on poisonous plants! A Garden guide will lead two tours of fascinating plant species that with healing—or harmful—properties. When it comes to plants, the line between medicine and poison can be a narrow one indeed, and the myths and facts circulating in popular culture could always use a little more clarification.
