About the Grower

Woody Lancaster has grown giant pumpkins for over 30 years, and in that time he’s established himself as a legend in the community, breaking weight records with his prize-winning gourds and supplying NYBG with some of the biggest ones we’ve put on display in the past. This year, as he turns 80, he’s decided to hang up his hat—but he made sure to retire on a high note. At 2,598 lbs., his last giant pumpkin has broken the all-time weight record in his home state of Massachusetts! See it while you can here at our Visitor Center.
