Community Seed and Story Share

November 14, 2026

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Off-site

Seed keeping connects us to our roots and to one another, and allows us to build more resilient and sovereign growing spaces. In this workshop, we will process and share seeds collected this season from Karol’s Urban Community Farm, while learning from ethnobotanist Kenneth Walker about his work to empower traditional seed systems and seed saving practices to support nutritional security and climate resilience in Kenyan schools.

This workshop will also feature a hair braiding demonstration led by Courtney Harris, honoring the ingenuity and resilience of African peoples who used the cultural practice of hair braiding to hide seeds in their loved ones’ hair as an insurance for survival during the transatlantic slave trade. In doing so, they created a legacy that shapes our seed and food worlds today.

Please bring any seeds you would like to share! Registration encouraged but not required.
