A Statement from NYBG Regarding Federal Funding Cuts
We have important news to share with you.
NYBG recently received notification that several previously awarded grants had been revoked.
These publicly funded grants were awarded through the Institute for Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Both agencies, among others, were eliminated through an executive order issued in mid-March. We expect similar reductions in funding on the horizon from the National Science Foundation, which has long supported NYBG scientists in expanding knowledge of the natural world.
This federal funding was dedicated to advancing scientific discovery and research, documenting and archiving our shared environmental history, and celebrating the cultural connections we have to our shared planet.
Public funding has helped us stay rooted in the Bronx while growing programs that reach people across NYC and beyond. Thanks to years of federal support, we’ve expanded our educational programming, our community outreach, and of course, our science research. We have clearly seen how these programs benefit both children and adults, locally and beyond, and we are proud of the work we have done to advance plant knowledge and educate future botanists.
Please consider donating to NYBG to help ensure that we can continue our important work.
