NYBG English Gardens Tour

Join the New York Botanical Garden for a rich exploration of a number of England’s most celebrated historic and contemporary gardens.

Traveling through the picturesque landscapes of Sussex and neighboring counties, we’ll trace four centuries of English horticultural history and the evolving and interdependent relationship between designed landscape and wild nature.  

Highlights include:  

• Sissinghurst Castle Garden – One of England’s most renowned gardens for nearly a century, celebrated for its intimate “garden rooms” and masterful use of structure, texture, and color. 

• Gravetye Manor – Once home to William Robinson, the influential author of The Wild Garden, this Elizabethan manor served as a proving ground for his pioneering ideas on naturalistic planting, and has been spectacularly restored by a new generation.

• Great Dixter House & Gardens – An Arts and Crafts landmark reimagined by two of the 20th century’s most acclaimed gardeners, exuberant borders and an exotic plant palette create a vibrant and ever-evolving showcase of horticultural innovation. 

• Knepp Castle – Britain’s largest lowland rewilding project, 3,500 acres establish a compelling new vision for the future of the English countryside, rich in biodiversity and abundant wildlife. 

• Millennium Seed Bank – Go behind the scenes and into the vaults of the world’s largest seed bank, which conserves threatened plant species and preserves the world’s agricultural biodiversity for future generations. (And which is an important partner in the NYBG-led Global Conservation Consortium for Food Plants!) 

The program includes four nights of accommodation at the South Lodge Hotel, all scheduled visits and activities, ground transportation, airport transfers on arrival and departure days, study materials, and most meals, including at Michelin-starred restaurants. International airfare is not included. 

Guests will also have the option to extend their stay to attend the exclusive Preview Gala of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, including gala tickets and accommodation at the Cadogan Hotel in Chelsea.
