White-capped river rapids under a blue sky

Extreme Botany & Botanical Oddities: A Lecture with Ana María Bedoya, Ph.D.

Tuesday, August 5, 2025

2 to 3 p.m. | Mertz Library & Online*

Join Dr. Ana María Bedoya as she shares her research on Neotropical aquatic plants, found in the extreme conditions of waterfalls and river rapids. Practicing what she calls “extreme botany,” Dr. Bedoya has traveled through challenging environments to study these strange and interesting aquatic specimens that have been under-collected by botanists. Hear about her work using field observations, herbarium collections, and large-scale genetic data to unveil geological and climate history.

This lecture is a hybrid event. Members can attend in-person at NYBG or online, as the lecture will also be hosted live on Zoom. Advance reservation is required.
