Global Conservation Consortium for Food Plants

September 24, 2025

12:30 to 2:30 p.m. | Stone Mill

Food plant diversity is vital to food security, human health and nutrition, cultural heritage, and the long-term sustainability of agriculture. Yet today, this diversity is under threat like never before—accelerated by the global biodiversity crisis and climate change impacts. In response, we’re launching a new global initiative to build a coordinated, sustainable effort to conserve food plant diversity and safeguard the foundation of our food systems for future generations.

Join us for the official launch of the Global Conservation Consortium for Food Plants (GCCFP)—a bold initiative led by the New York Botanical Garden, in collaboration with Botanic Gardens Conservation International, the Global Crop Diversity Trust, the United States Botanic Garden, and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

The event will feature lunch and remarks by Dr. Cristian Samper, Managing Director and Leader for Nature Solutions at the Bezos Earth Fund; food curated by Chef Erik Oberholtzer, co-founder of Tender Greens; and show and tell (and taste!) of diverse foods grown by New York-area farmers.

Please note that this invitation is non-transferable.
