Join us to launch the Global Conservation Consortium for Food Plants

September 24, 2025
12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
NYBG | Stone Mill

Join us on September 24 for the official launch of the Global Conservation Consortium for Food Plants (GCCFP). The event will feature remarks from GCCFP representatives and food plant biodiversity experts, light bites curated by Chef Erik Oberholtzer, and presentations of diverse crops grown by local farmers.

Food plant diversity is vital to food security, human health and nutrition, cultural heritage, and the long-term sustainability of agriculture. Yet today, this diversity is under threat like never before – accelerated by the global biodiversity crisis and climate change impacts.

This global initiative – led by NYBG in collaboration with Botanic Gardens Conservation International, the Global Crop Diversity Trust, the United States Botanic Garden, and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture – is a coordinated, sustainable effort to conserve food plant diversity and safeguard the foundation of our food systems for future generations. Join us to celebrate the launch of this impactful initiative during Climate Week NYC 2025!
