Welcome to the Virtual Herbarium!

Thursday, January 11, 2024

6–7:30 p.m. | Online

Join the NYBG Herbarium online for a tour and interactive workshop highlighting the C. V. Starr Virtual Herbarium, an online resource containing thousands of plant specimens that is free and open to everyone. The workshop, led by Assistant Curator of the William and Lynda Steere Herbarium Matthew Pace, will introduce the virtual herbarium, discuss the value of plant preservation in both physical and virtual herbaria, and demonstrate how to navigate and search the virtual herbarium by highlighting a few plant specimen stories in the Herbarium blog, The Hand Lens. The workshop will also invite attendees to share ways that the virtual herbarium may be useful for their projects and interests, as well as questions they may have about using or contributing to content linked in the database.

This workshop is a part of the Herbarium + Community Garden Initiative, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the NYBG Herbarium, Humanities Institute, and Bronx Green-Up.
