Poetry for Every Season

Poetry Walk

February 28–April 19
Stroll through the Leon Levy Visitor Center and Perennial Garden Way to read orchid-inspired poems selected by poet Deborah Landau. Poetry will be displayed in the landscape and will be accompanied by a free cell phone audio tour.

Deborah Landau reads poems inspired by the beauty of spring and works from her book Orchidelirium, which won the Anhinga Prize for Poetry.

Join Sonia Uyterhoeven, Gardener for Public Education, as she discusses the basics of orchid care and how to choose and successfully grow these exotic plants.

Ballroom's Best: Tango, Waltz, and Cha-Cha

Saturdays and Sundays, plus Monday, April 6; 1 & 3 p.m.*

Dancers from Ballet Hispanico's BHdos troupe lead audiences through dances such as the waltz, tango, mambo, and cha-cha—each one gorgeously costumed and choreographed. A guided instruction gives you insights on how to master the moves yourself.

Film Screening: Vanilla: The Sacred Orchid

Learn the intriguing life process—from flower to pantry—of the world's favorite flavor. This scenic film examines the full year-cycle of this spice from Veracruz, Mexico. The orchid is still cultivated by the same indigenous people who have been growing it for centuries. (Run time: 26 minutes)
