Channel the spirit of the ’60s at Flower Power, a joyous celebration of the enduring symbolism of flowers as icons of peace and love. Immerse yourself in a groovy and colorful flower show spotlighting the ways in which hippie culture advanced closer relationships with the natural world, and explore vibrant botanical displays. NYBG’s galleries will showcase photography and visual art from the 1960s, while installations on grounds invite all of us to “come together” and be empowered to embrace flowers as symbols in our own lives.

Explore Groovy Botanical Displays

In and around the Haupt Conservatory, wander through psychedelic flower displays and art installations that evoke the free-spirited heart of the 1960s peace and love movement. Elsewhere in the Garden, find classic VW buses colorfully decorated for the perfect photo op!

Step back in time with an extraordinary display of paintings, photographs, screenprints, and collages by artists from the 1960s and ‘70s that depict flowers as symbols of peace and love. See Andy Warhol’s Flowers (1964) on view alongside the image used as source material for the work—a photograph taken by nature photographer and environmental activist Patricia Caulfield—plus other highlights including artworks by Joe Brainard, Milton Glaser, Carlos Irizarry, Corita Kent, and many others.

Join us after hours as Flower Power comes alive with a colorful liquid light show and unforgettable live music! Explore the exhibition under the lights, join in for crafts and lawn games, shop local good in our Maker’s Market, and grab a bite from a delicious lineup of food and drink options.
