Summary of Responsibilities:

The Senior Plant Recorder works in the Plant Records Office to document and maintain all records of the Garden’s Living Collections, including performing inventories of plant collections, accessioning and de-accessioning plants, and entering data into the computerized catalog of the living collections and mapping program. The Senior Plant Recorder performs some secretarial and clerical duties. He/she researches and verifies plant names and other information and enters such information into the computerized catalogue. Key responsibilities include:
 
·         Accessions and de-accessions plants using the computerized catalog of the living collections.
·         Keeps files, maintains catalogs and other reference materials, and plant orders.
·         Performs plant inventories.
·         Assists Plant Records Manager in maintaining the accuracy and currency of the computerized catalog of the living collections.
·         Researches and verifies plant names and identification.
·         Updates data source, plant source, names, and other files in the living collections catalog.
·         Updates plant locations and status in the living collections catalog.
·         Uses the mapping program to locate plants.
·         Produces and installs accession and display labels.
·         Assists Plant Records Manager, horticulture curators, and other staff as needed.
·         Supervises data entry personnel including students, interns, and Plant Recorder.
·         Performs other secretarial and clerical duties as required.
 
Requirements:
 
·         High School diploma or equivalent required; some college-level work in plant biology or environmental sciences preferred.
·         Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and similar programs required.
·         Prior Plant Records experience using BG-BASE and BG-Map or similar collections management and mapping software preferred.
·         Knowledge of botanical nomenclature and plant identification characteristics preferred.
·         Must be willing to work weekends if needed.
·         One to two years experience in horticulture, plant biology, or similar field.
