Summary of Responsibilities:
The NYC Compost Project, created by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in 1993, provides compost outreach and education to New Yorkers in all five boroughs. Funded and managed through the Department of Sanitation’s Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling, the NYC Compost Project programs are carried out by department-funded staff at host sites in each borough.
The Part-Time Compost Project Administrator for the NYC Compost Project report to the Compost Project Manager. The Project Administrator is responsible for a range of administrative tasks associated with the project. The Project Administrator also helps at various outreach events to build programmatic efforts. Key duties include:
· Manage Compost Helpline and e-mail inquiries.
· Maintain current inventory of BWPRR Education Materials and distribute BWPRR educational materials as needed.
· Submit accurate program information to BWPRR for WasteLess listing events.
· Maintain respective organizational website with current and accurate program information.
· Manage and report sales of compost bins, compost crank, and any other compost-related equipment.
· Promote Golden Apple Awards and other relevant BWPRR programs to schools.
· Disseminate information about composting at public outreach events.
· Assist Compost Project Manager and Compost Project Coordinator in developing programmatic opportunities/partnerships.
· Local travel required.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
· Experience with a wide range of computer applications, particularly Excel and MS Word.
· Minimum two years of related work experience.
· Strong administrative and organizational skills.
· Comfort and ability to interface with the public.
· Ability to prioritize work load and work independently.
· Knowledge of compost science, indoor and outdoor composting techniques, and NYC Compost Program and an interest and understanding of composting is a plus.
· Valid driver’s license is a plus.
