Interpretation Volunteer Intern
Volunteer Services - Position Application Number:
The Exhibitions and Public Engagement Department at the New York Botanical Garden is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with the implementation and development of exhibition and grounds interpretation. This is an excellent hands-on opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about museum education.
Activities and responsibilities include:
1. Exhibition Signage
· Assist in the preparation and editing of signage copy
· Conduct photo research at NYBG Library and elsewhere
· Participate in installation/deinstallation of interpretation
· Write copy and install ephemeral (chalkboard) signage throughout the Garden grounds
2. Audio Tour Development
· Assist in preparation of audio tour copy and recording of tours
· Review user comments and questions for active audio tours
3. General Administration
· assist with organization and archiving of past exhibition signage and audio tour recordings
· Assist in compiling of information for docent training sessions
Requirements
Undergraduate or graduate students with a background and/or strong interest in museum or science education, ecology, horticulture, or plant science. Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated library research experience are desired. Prior experience working in museum education is a plus. Please note that this internships is unpaid.
