Winter Lecture Series: C. Colston Burrell

Native Plants and Ecologica Design

Ross Lecture Hall

Native plants are currently the height of fashion. Gardeners, restorationists, and landscape architects are planting natives, but do we really know what is native and where? When we plant a floodplain species in an upland area, are we gardening ecologically? Are cultivars native? These are a few of the questions C. Colston Burrell addresses as he examines the current popularity of landscaping with native plants from an ecological perspective. Explore possibilities, techniques, and the issues behind ecologically-based, sustainable landscape design using native plant communities and regionally native species.
