Tree Time with Mama Miti and the NYBG Explainers

Posted in Videos , What's On at NYBG on February 22, 2021, by Matt Newman

Kids can join our NYBG Explainers from home for an activity inspired by Donna Jo Napoli’s beautifully illustrated Mama Miti: Wangari Maathai and the Trees of Kenya.

Read through the book with Ashley to discover the true story of Wangari Maathai, who founded Kenya’s Green Belt movement and was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Then join Amber to learn how you can “adopt” one of your local street trees, and how to observe its changes through the seasons.

You can find find and print out the Adoption Certificate and ID card for your tree here.
