  1. The Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) oversees and monitors non-degree granting proprietary schools in New York State. BPSS’s mission is to ensure that the overall educational quality of the programs offered will provide students with the necessary skills to secure meaningful employment and to protect students’ financial interests while attending proprietary schools. BPSS licenses/registers proprietary schools and credentials proprietary schoolteachers to ensure that appropriate standards are met. (NYSED, 2018).

  2. The School of Horticulture and Landscape Design (SHLD) is NYBG’s BPSS certified Private Career School. SHLD includes Certificates in Horticulture, Landscape Design, and Horticultural Therapy.

  3. By enrolling in NYBG’s School for Horticulture and Landscape Design, you will be learning from the field’s top professionals in a variety of fields. NYBG’s recent certification as a Private Career School ensures that our State licensed teachers are providing you with a top-of-the-line State approved education. All SHLD students will receive one-on-one guidance through the program, as well as guaranteed, fixed pricing for all classes. Future employers will recognized SHLD as a quality institution, with career-ready graduates.

  4. The $100 administrative fee is a one-time only fee that is required by New York State. This fee ensures your enrollment in SHLD.

  5. Depending on which Certificate/Track you are pursuing, your Certificate will take anywhere from one to 2.5 years. In your official Enrollment Form, you will have a pre-planned schedule available to follow if you would like. You are also welcome to take classes as best works for your personal schedule.

  6. ABSOLUTELY! Stop by the Registration Office located in the Watson Education Building, Room 306. Any of our Registration staff will be able to walk you through our various programs and help plan a class schedule that works best for you.
