Opening this Saturday, November 1, and only running for about two weeks, our kiku display is a true wonder of the plant world that you’ll want to make time to experience! 🌼

An ancient Japanese horticultural practice, the art of kiku involves the careful training of chrysanthemum plants—which create some of fall’s most gorgeous flowers—into complex and sculptural forms over the course of nearly a year. The end result is a series of individual plants that create hundreds of flowers in shapes like mountains and cascading waterfalls.

Hear from Anna about the meticulous process that went into creating these artful blooms, then see them for yourself through November 16 in the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections.

Our corpse flower's ambitiously tall spadix has taken on a bit of a witch's hat look, but thus far the flower hasn't faded and is putting off its infamous smell for plenty of excited visitors. Come and see it for yourself from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow in the Haupt Conservatory as we celebrate spooky season with horticulture's most ghoulish plant!

Our latest Amorphophallus titanum bloom showed its first signs of opening at around 2:30 p.m. this Wednesday, and we're already catching whiffs of its infamous smell. Keep an eye on its progress tonight via the livestream through the link in our bio, and plan to be here at the Haupt Conservatory on Thursday to see the bloom in rare form. If this past weekend's giant pumpkin carving is any evidence, we're thinking Halloween might be close! 🎃

This truly ghoulish masterpiece emerged from a 2100+ lb. pumpkin across four days of work by carvers @adambierton, @lennycalvincreations, and @prince_pistachio, with crisp, sunny fall weather on the forecast and plenty of spooky season fans on site to watch the progress. If you didn't make it out, you can still catch the carving here in the Visitor Center this week (for as long as it holds together!)

At over ONE TON, the giant pumpkin @adambierton’s carving this weekend is sure to create a monstrous jack-o’-lantern! 🎃

Kicking off today and continuing through this Sunday, October 26, our Giant Pumpkin Carving at NYBG sees Adam joined by @lennycalvincreations and Julia Jankowski to tackle a truly monumental task: turning a 2,100+ lb. pumpkin into a sculptural masterpiece.

It’s happening soon! Our corpse flower has grown

It’s happening soon! Our corpse flower has grown by leaps and bounds this week, and we think it'll bloom any day now. ⏰🥀

Native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra, these plants can take up to 10 years to bloom from seed. This particular specimen is 12 years old, and has bloomed a few times before—just one in a long history of corpse flowers at NYBG, dating back to our first flower in 1937.

This one last bloomed two years ago, and its next big show looks to be closing in fast! Keep an eye out for updates, check out the livestream through link in bio, and be ready to get your tickets at nybg.org, because the bloom will likely only last 24 to 48 hours.

It’s nearly time for our Annual Pumpkin Carve-Off, and this Saturday, we want you there to vote for the winner! 🎃

Together with pro carver @adambierton, our master of ceremonies, stop in on October 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as three of the region’s top pumpkin carvers—@lennycalvincreations, @the_pumpkin_artist, and @johndavis_art—put their skills to the test while sculpting imaginative jack-o'-lanterns. YOU get to vote for the winner, and it’s a great chance to explore the Garden in all of its fall flavors, from pumpkin displays in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden to seasonal beer offerings in the Visitor Center, and Van Gogh’s Flowers in its final days.

Adam will also be back this coming Sunday doing some carving of his own, so don’t miss this coming weekend of autumn excitement!
