For the ninth straight year, Nate and Liz, the NYBG’s official resident red-tailed hawk pair, have extended their family. 2025 marks the fourth year they have nested in an Eastern White Pine near the Library Lawn.
I first got to meet the new additions on Tuesday, June 3, when I invited some of my colleagues in Continuing Education to observe the red-tailed hawk nest during my lunch break. While they pointed their binoculars, I set up my camera gear.
We were not disappointed and soon, three fluffy figures made their appearance. They were jumping up and down, flapping their wings.
Here is footage of our new friends while they were still flapping away in the nest!
Eventually, all three successfully fledged and are now hunting our 250 acres. Welcome to NYBG!
