In looking forward to families getting to experience this year’s Orchid Show, designer Mr. Flower Fantastic said, “I also think about the children visiting the exhibition, especially those who may be here for the first time. I hope it sparks wonder and shows them that creativity, nature, and imagination can open limitless possibilities.”

This winter break, bundle up with your little ones and bring the whole family to NYBG! A day at the Garden is the perfect way to beat the winter blues. Plus, you get to spend time together and keep the kids engaged and active while school is on pause.

We have so much to experience, from fabulously frosty landscapes to our warm and welcoming Haupt Conservatory—where you can experience The Orchid Show: Mr Flower Fantastic’s Concrete Jungle, transforming New York City with thousands of colorful orchids in a beautiful reimagining of everyday metropolis moments!

Then make your way to the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, where Rooted in Plants invites kids to get hands-on with crafts like making their own pinecone bird feeders—while learning about the Black Birder movement and amazing figures in orchid history for Black History Month.

Even in the winter, seasonal blooms are popping up all over the Garden grounds, too! Discover beauties like snowdrops, witch-hazels, and camellias, which are sure to give you hope that spring is right around the corner. Connect with nature on a trail through the trees in the Forest or Conifer collections, and try to spot birds in the branches, from small cardinals to large hawks! Make sure to stop by the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden for exciting exploration and fun built especially for kids.

One of the best ways to dig into learning is with our Winter Camps, starting February 17. These are exciting adventures for every age, including whimsical nature walks during our brand-new Winter Wonders Nature Camp for kids in Pre-K through K, as well as science investigations and nature discoveries during our Cool Science Camp for kids in Grades 1 through 6. Campers make unforgettable memories, new friends, and gain more interests and knowledge in our natural world.

If your legs are getting tired—or if the little ones are getting antsy—our tram is the perfect way to see the outdoor collections of the Garden without walking too far. Just hop on and off at designated tram stops throughout our 250 acres.

Plan ahead for winter break and get a visit on the calendar during one of our most enchanting seasons!
