Today marks the kick-off of #COP16—@unbiodiversity’s biannual, two-week-long biodiversity conference—and we’re proud to have NYBG scientists in attendance down in Cali, Colombia.

But what really IS biodiversity? Hear from NYBG’s Chief Science Officer, Dr. Mauricio Diazgranados, to learn a little bit more about it—and why it’s so important to the health of our planet and humanity at large. Together with researchers from around the world, we’re working to ensure the beauty and variety of life on Earth is protected for future generations.

Big, bigger, BIGGEST—the giant pumpkins have arr

Big, bigger, BIGGEST—the giant pumpkins have arrived in time for this weekend, and they're truly monumental! 🎃🙌

Starting with a 2207-lb. beast from Ron and Dick Wallace in Rhode Island and followed by a gargantuan 2,457-lb. pumpkin from Barry LeBlanc in New Hampshire, you might have a hard time believing these are real. The cherry on top is the BIGGEST PUMPKIN WE'VE EVER HAD with Earl Thompson's 2,670-lb. behemoth from Michigan, the 2nd largest in the WORLD this year.

Come meet the growers this Saturday and Sunday, watch them open up and deseed these giants (from the inside!), and get your questions in about how they're possible!

Join Dr. Harris for a symposium featuring a conversation with @chefkwameonwuachi, creator of NYC’s renowned restaurant Tatiana (@tatianabychefkwame) at @LincolnCenter, as well as a panel of trailblazing food scholars and community organizers who contributed to the creation of the African American Garden here at NYBG. They’ll explore the rich stories of memories and belonging told by the plants in the garden over these years, and welcome you to the closing ceremony at the collection.

Back for its fourth year on October 12, this challenge pits three of the country's BEST carvers against each other in a battle to see which jack-o'-lantern reigns supreme—and we're thinkin' it's gonna be stiff competition. With Master of Ceremonies @AdamBierton on mic to host, come cheer on your favorite artist as Sarah Blostein (@ahead.of.the.carve), Lenny Calvin (@lennycalvincreations), and Alan Silva (@theartsylefty) break out their skills to take the podium with a pumpkin inspired by Wonderland: Curious Nature.
