Bronx Food & Farm Tour: Castle Hill Walking Tour

September 10, 2022

12–2:30 p.m. | Off-Site

Meet at the Roxanne Reid Memorial Garden at 12 p.m. • 635 Castle Hill Avenue

Join us as we explore the gardens, farms, and food culture of the Castle Hill community. Bronx Green-Up/NYBG Community Horticulturist Che will lead the tour beginning at the Roxanne Reid Memorial Garden. GrowNYC Garden Coordinators & co-Founders of the GrowNYC Gardens at NYCHA program, Chantel Kemp and DK Kinard, will showcase all the garden has to offer, plus give an overview of the importance of gardens as Community Hubs. The weekly Saturday GrowNYC Farmstand will also be on-site from 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Next stop on the tour will be Karol’s Urban Community Farm. This farm is just getting started on a 1.3-acre site on NYCHA property. Noah and Jalen of A Beautiful World will lead the tour of the farm and share future plans for this site while B. Blossom will provide a healthy and delicious lunch sampling. Finally, take a look at the abundant Havemeyer Garden—featuring vegetables, fruit trees, and a rain harvesting system—while tasting some of garden member Atapon’s recipes.

In partnership with A Beautiful World, B-Blossom Catering, Bronx Green-Up/NYBG, Castle Hill Residents Association, GrowNYC, Havemeyer Garden Association, HealthFirst, Montefiore Health System, NYC Parks GreenThumb, and Roxanne Reid Memorial Garden.
