Charitable Trust

A charitable trust is a way to set aside assets that will ultimately support one or more charities that are important to you. The trust can be designed to provide income to you or your loved ones for a set period of up to 20 years. At the end of that period, the remaining assets are given to the charity or charities that are named in the trust.

Tax Benefits

  • Income tax deduction: You receive an immediate tax deduction when you fund the trust. The deduction amount is based on the calculated present value of the portion that will ultimately go to charity.
  • Capital gains tax avoidance: The trust can sell appreciated assets without incurring immediate capital gains tax. This allows the full value of the assets to be reinvested.
  • Estate tax reduction: The assets are removed from your taxable estate, which can significantly reduce estate taxes.
