ABOUT KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature

  1. KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature opens to the public Saturday, April 10, 2021 and closes Sunday, October 31, 2021.

  2. KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature is on view exclusively at NYBG. Across NYBG’s 250-acre landmark landscape, the depth of Kusama’s lifelong fascination with the natural world will be revealed through multiple installations. The exhibition also debuts four new works created by the legendary artist, including a monumental pumpkin sculpture and her first-ever obliteration greenhouse. These works have never been publicly exhibited, and many others in the exhibition will be on view for the first time in the United States. NYBG’s expansive landscape offers a singular Kusama experience.

  3. KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature remains largely unchanged both in terms of the works exhibited as well as the underlying themes of the exhibition. However, we have made changes to the visitor experience in accordance with New York State and City guidelines for social distancing and visitor safety.

  4. No. Interior access to this immersive installation is planned to begin in summer 2021, operating per New York State and City guidelines for social distancing and visitor safety.

  5. The safety of our visitors and staff remains our top priority, and we have implemented safety measures based on guidance from health authorities and government agencies including: requiring visitors and staff to wear face coverings, increasing sanitization of public and staff areas, administering health screenings for our on-site staff, and supporting social distancing practices with wayfinding signage and other guidance. TICKETS

  1. Yes. Managing density within the Garden has been a major consideration. We are offering limited, timed-entry tickets to stagger visitor arrival, promote social distancing, and mitigate the risk of crowding in high-traffic areas.

  2. For the safety of all, a limited number of visitors will be admitted to the Garden every hour. Advance purchase of a timed-entry ticket is required for everyone, including Members and Patrons. Visitors will receive a confirmation e-mail and option to print or download a mobile ticket. You should plan to arrive at the Garden at the time on your ticket.

  3. Advance purchase of a timed-entry ticket is required. Entry is not guaranteed to visitors who arrive at the Garden without tickets.

  4. NYBG Patrons receive a dedicated ticket pre-sale beginning March 9 at 10 a.m. ET. The Member and Corporate Member pre-sale begins March 11 at 10 a.m. ET. Public tickets go on sale March 16 at 10 a.m. ET.

    Tickets will be released in phases. The first phase includes tickets for visit dates through June 30, 2021. Details for remaining ticket phases will be available in late spring.

    Please note: Tickets are limited and may sell out; we recommend purchasing early.

  5. All tickets can be reserved through your Corporate Member portal beginning March 11 at 10 a.m. ET. If tickets for your desired date and time are sold out, you may purchase regular tickets through the public website.

  6. Yes, if you purchased tickets to the 2020 KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature exhibition, you will receive a special pre-sale beginning on March 15, 10 a.m. A code will be emailed to the email address you used to purchase your 2020 tickets with pre-sale access information.

  8. All tickets are non-transferable. Official KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets can only be purchased in advance at nybg.org. KUSAMA Garden Pass tickets may also be available through approved third-party partners. Beware of buying tickets through unapproved third-party sellers, as they may not be authentic. If you purchase your tickets through an unauthorized source, NYBG will not be able to guarantee your entry.

  9. Become a Member! NYBG Members and Patrons and are eligible to access the exclusive ticket pre-sale beginning March 9 for Patrons and March 11 for Members. Memberships purchased online are valid at the moment of purchase. If you purchase a Membership by phone or at NYBG, your online Membership account will be activated within 5 days of purchase. For lapsed Members to be in good standing, your Membership must be renewed by February 21. This will ensure that your information has been updated in our system ahead of the pre-sale. Memberships can be purchased online at nybg.org/membership, at the Garden at any ticket window, or by phone at 718.817.8703.

     

  10. If you purchased your tickets online, you can choose to print your tickets at home or present your tickets on your mobile device. If you reserved your tickets over the phone with a ticket agent, you can retrieve your tickets at any Garden ticket window by giving the reservation number and name on the order. Garden staff reserve the right to ask for ID.

  11. Yes, all children, regardless of age, must have a ticket for entry to the Garden.

  12. If you purchased your tickets online, you will receive an Order Confirmation e-mail with a link to view or print your tickets. You can also retrieve your confirmation from the order lookup webpage. Enter the e-mail address and phone number used at the time of purchase and select search to view your orders and tickets.

  13. Please allow a few minutes for the Order Confirmation e-mail to arrive. If the e-mail has not arrived after 15 minutes, check your Spam or Junk Mail folder. If the Order Confirmation e-mail is not in either of those locations, your confirmation can be retrieved from the order lookup webpage. Enter the e-mail address and phone number used at the time of purchase and select Search to view your orders and tickets.

  14. No, go green! If you purchased your tickets online, you can access your mobile tickets on any smartphone or mobile device through your Order Confirmation e-mail. We do not require that you print your tickets, but you must present a valid mobile ticket for entry. If you are issued a Reservation Number for Will-Call, you must provide this number at any ticket window to retrieve your tickets.

  15. No, tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and non-transferable. All events are rain or shine. Tickets are void after date/time specified on the ticket and after initial entry. NYBG has the right to refuse, revoke, or limit admission in its sole discretion at any time. Review ticket terms & conditions here.

  16. No, tickets are not eligible for exchange or refund. Ensure you carefully review your order before you finalize it.

  17. Yes, if tickets are available for the same date you originally purchased. Please e-mail ticketingsupport@nybg.org for information on upgrading your tickets. Please note, you may be charged an exchange fee.

     

  18. All tickets are non-transferable. Official KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets can only be purchased in advance at nybg.org.   20. Yes, after entering the Garden, visitors must present their printed or mobile tickets to staff. In order to ensure all guests have the best possible experience, you will be asked to present your ticket for scanning at various locations throughout your visit.

  21. To redeem your admission benefits for the Garden’s outdoor collections and grounds with KUSAMA Garden Pass tickets, simply show your Chase Private Client Card, along with a valid Photo ID, upon your arrival on-site to the Garden. Advance reservations online are not available to Chase Private Clients at this time, and we will accommodate your entry on-site. Chase Private Clients receive free admission for the cardholder to the Garden’s outdoor collections and grounds on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and a 20% discount for the cardholder Thursday–Sunday. Due to capacity restrictions, KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets cannot be guaranteed. For any questions, please e-mail corprelations@nybg.org.

For Members

  1. To ensure that our valued NYBG Members and Patrons have the first chance at securing their desired visit dates, we have designated an exclusive ticket pre-sale. The Patron pre-sale begins on March 9 at 10 a.m. ET. Members are eligible to access the ticket pre-sale beginning March 11 at 10 a.m. ET. Public tickets will go on sale to the general public on March 16, 10 a.m. ET. Member and Patron tickets will continue to be available to reserve or purchase throughout the exhibition, contingent on availability. Please note: tickets will likely sell out, so we recommend purchasing early!

     

  2. Purchasing a Membership online at nybg.org/membership is fast, secure, and easy—and you will have instant access to you Membership benefits. Memberships can also be purchased in person at the Garden at any ticket window, or by phone at 718.817.8703. If you purchase a Membership by phone, or at NYBG, your online Membership account will be activated within 5 to 10 days.

  3. The most important step to ensuring you have access to the Member pre-sale is to check that your online Member account is active and up-to-date. Ensure that your Membership is active through the date of your desired visit. You may only reserve tickets for dates within your Membership term. If you have not set up your password for your Member account, please follow these instructions.

    We recommend that all Members log in prior to March 5 to verify their Member account details, which will help ensure a smooth ticket-purchasing experience when the pre-sale starts on March 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. ET. As we expect high call volume, we will not be able to take phone orders for KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature during the pre-sale period.

  4. Yes. You can reserve and purchase beginning March 11, 10 a.m. ET. As a Corporate Member, you are eligible for complimentary KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets and KUSAMA Garden Pass tickets, which can be reserved through your Corporate Member portal.
  5. As a Member, you already have an online account. All you need to do is create your password. To do so, visit nybg.org/account and find the Create/Forgot Password link. Enter the information associated with your Membership and check your e-mail for a link to set your new password. If you attempt to log in with an e-mail address that is not associated with your Membership in our records, the system will not recognize you. To add your preferred e-mail address to our system, please call 718.817.8703, and we will be happy to assist you. If you already have a Member login but have forgotten your login information, you will need to reset this information prior to March 5. See step by step instructions here.

  6. Visit nybg.org/account and find the Create/Forgot Password link. Enter the e-mail and name associated with your Membership and check your e-mail for a link to set your new password. If you do not receive the password reset e-mail, or you do not know the e-mail address associated with your Membership, please call the Membership office at 718.817.8703, and we will be happy to assist you.

  7. Entering your Member login is the only way to access tickets at the Member rate. If you add tickets to your cart without entering your login information, and then are required to login, you will need to go back and add Member tickets to your cart. It is possible that in the interim, the tickets you had selected will sell out. We recommend that all Members log in prior to March 5 to verify their account details, which will help ensure a smooth ticket-purchasing experience.

  8. You will still be able to reserve your complimentary tickets, contingent upon availability. Advance reservation is strongly recommended as tickets are likely to sell out.

  9. Individual Members are entitled to 1 adult ticket; Dual, 2 adult tickets; Family, 2 adults and 5 children; Friends & Family and Supporting, 3 adults and 5 children; Contributing and Sustaining, 4 adults and 5 children. Garden Patrons, 6 adults and 6 children. These limitations apply to both KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass and KUSAMA Garden Pass tickets.

    You may purchase up to 6 additional tickets per transaction at the regular rate.

  10. Yes, a special Members-Only Preview Day will take place on April 9. Visit nybg.org/kusama for more information.

  11. In addition to complimentary KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass admission, Patrons will have exclusive access to private events throughout the run of the exhibition. Invitations to these events will be sent to Patrons directly via mail and/or e-mail. For more information about becoming a Patron, please call 718.817.8553 or visit nybg.org/patron.

  12. Guest passes can be redeemed for KUSAMA Garden Pass tickets, however passes cannot be redeemed online or at the Garden. Please e-mail ticketingsupport@nybg.org to make a will call reservation. Submit the request at least 48 hours before your visit and include a copy of your Member ticket confirmation e-mail. Tickets are based on availability and guest passes are only valid with an active Membership. You will be required to present your guest pass(es) and your Membership Card or photo ID for pickup. Guest passes are not valid for KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets.

  13. Yes, each pass can be used for free parking once. If you do not bring your pass with you, you will be required to pay half-price (no refunds). Parking passes are only valid with an active Membership, and you will be required to show your Membership Card to the parking attendant. Parking at the Garden is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis, and is not guaranteed. We strongly encourage the use of public transportation—it is also good for the planet! See “Getting to the Garden” below.

  14. No, only NYBG Members are eligible for the Member pre-sale. Join today for access to these special benefits and more! Memberships can be purchased online at nybg.org/membership, in person at the Garden, or by phone at 718.817.8703.

  15. No, Memberships and Membership benefits—including discounted or free tickets, parking passes, and Membership Cards—are non-transferable.

  17. No, while Members enjoy free tickets, they do not have “skip-the-line” access to the exhibition.

GETTING TO THE GARDEN

  1. The Garden is located in The Bronx, New York. Our address is 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10458.

  2. NYBG is easily accessible via Metro-North Railroad and by subway (B, D, and 4 trains to Bedford Park Blvd. Station and 2 train to Allerton Ave. Station). NYBG is only 20 minutes from Grand Central Terminal to Botanical Garden Station on Metro-North’s Harlem local line.

    Public transportation, taxi, or other rideshare services are recommended to avoid parking delays. Drop-off and pickup location for these services is 2900 Southern Blvd., Bronx, NY 10458.

  3. Parking is available at the Garden (2900 Southern Blvd.) and at the NYBG Parking Garage (401 Bedford Park Blvd). Parking is $20 per vehicle and is not included with admission. Active Members with a valid parking pass and Members at Supporting level or above receive free parking, as available, with valid Membership Card. Parking is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis, and is not guaranteed.

    We recommend using public transportation, taxi, or other rideshare services to avoid parking delays.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  1. Possibly; in order to facilitate social distancing, you may be asked to wait to enter certain spaces. Queues may be in place with wait times varying by day and location, but rest assured your access is guaranteed with a valid ticket.

  2. Ticketholders should plan to spend a few hours at the Garden. In order to facilitate social distancing, you may be asked to wait to enter certain spaces.

     

  3. No. If you purchased a KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass ticket, we recommend beginning your experience in the Visitor Center and proceeding to the Mertz Library Building before visiting the Haupt Conservatory. KUSAMA Garden Pass ticketholders are welcome to explore the exhibition at their own pace and in their own order.

  4. KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass ticketholders can access KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature installations that are both outdoors and indoors. KUSAMA Garden Pass ticketholders can access the outdoor installations of the exhibition. The Garden’s 250 acres are open in all weather conditions, so we ask everyone to be prepared for outdoor exploration. Please plan your attire accordingly.

  5. Yes, after entering the Garden, visitors must present their printed or mobile tickets to staff. In order to ensure all guests have the best possible experience, you will be asked to present your ticket for scanning at various locations throughout your visit.

  6. KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature is open to all ages. All children, regardless of age, must have a ticket for the exhibition, and children under two are free of charge. Tickets include access to the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden where fun, science and art activities are offered throughout every season. During KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature, a special program called Kids Get Cosmic! will be offered. Children are also invited to roll up their sleeves and help tend the gardens at NYBG’s state-of-the-art Edible Academy.

    Note that in select KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature installations, your family can expect to experience darkness, bright colors, flashing lights, enclosed spaces, repeating patterns, and more. A full experience can take a few hours, and may include waiting time to access certain spaces. We recommend reading through the “Know Before You Go” section to ensure that the KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature experience suits your family’s needs.

     

  7. The Garden does not have coat-check facilities and certain items are prohibited in various indoor spaces. We recommend that you travel light and plan to spend time outdoors. See more guidelines here.

  8. We invite you to enjoy the array of food and beverages that can be purchased at the Pine Tree Café. Outside food and drink must be consumed at the Clay Family Picnic Pavilions. Food and drink are not permitted in or around any KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature installations.

  9. Strollers are allowed throughout the Garden grounds with the exception of Flower Obsession (2020) obliteration greenhouse, the Mertz Library Building, Haupt Conservatory, Ross Gallery, and the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden Discovery Center. Stroller parking is available at these locations.

  10. Bags larger than 11” x 15” x 9” may not be brought into the Kusama: Cosmic Nature immersive installations. NYBG does not offer bag or coat-check facilities. Please follow instructions from NYBG staff at all times, as this policy may change in order to ensure a safe and free flow of guests.

  11. You are welcome to take personal, non-flash photography. Make sure to tag us in your photos with #KusamaNYBG. Photography is not permitted in the Mertz Library Building Gallery. Tripods, monopods, easels, selfie sticks, and lighting equipment are not permitted in the Conservatory, Library Building, Ross Gallery, and KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature immersive installations.

    Please follow the below photography guidelines:

    • Stay on the paths: do not enter planted areas or water features and do not climb trees or rock outcroppings. Do not impede visitor movement by blocking off paths or redirecting access in any way.
    • Preserve our plants and art installations: do not touch, pick, climb, or otherwise damage them.
    • Multiple changes of clothes for personal use photo or film shoots are not permitted unless you have received permission through a Garden Permit.
    • Commercial photography or filming is prohibited without the express written permission of NYBG Public Relations.

ACCESSIBILITY

  1. All NYBG buildings, seasonal exhibitions, and tour vehicles are accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, and personal 3- and 4-wheeled electric scooters. However, due to the Garden’s naturally varied topography, portions of the historic landscape may be inaccessible.   2. Yes, wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the Leon Levy Visitor Center, Mosholu Entrance, East Gate, and Bedford Park Gate. Reservations are not accepted. An ID must be left with Visitor Services. Suggested wheelchair routes are outlined in the Accessibility Guide (available at the Garden or download here). NYBG does not offer electric scooters, golf carts, or private transport services.

  3. While the Tram Tour does pass some KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature installations, it is not intended to transport visitors to specific installations. Instead, the Tram Tour travels across the Garden grounds and provides an overview of the Garden history and collections. Access to the Tram Tour is included in KUSAMA Garden & Gallery Pass tickets.

  4. KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature features immersive, multisensory installations. Note that in select installations, you can expect to experience darkness, bright colors, flashing lights, enclosed spaces, repeating patterns, and more.

SCHOOL GROUPS

  1. K–12 school groups may visit select portions of KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature. Advance registration and payment are required for all programs. Capacity restrictions apply at specific locations. Read about planning your school visit here.

  2. High School groups must staff one adult for every ten students. K through Grade 8 groups must staff one adult for every seven students. Pre-K groups must staff one adult for every five students.

  3. Yes! School groups are welcome to eat their pre-packed lunches at the Clay Family Picnic Pavilions, which is located near the School Group Entrance. Groups are not allowed at the public dining venues on Garden grounds. There are no indoor school group dining facilities due to capacity limitations.

  4. Yes, all school group visits require a reservation. Please note that some areas of the Garden are not accessible for self-guided groups. For Self-Guided Activity Guides, click here.
