WELCOME!
Here at The New York Botanical Garden, we grow more than just plants - we grow new programs, creativity, and people, too. Our staff is always working to develop and deliver programs that bring the world of plants to you and your students in new and exciting ways.
Here's a sampling of what's new: In January and February, join us for The Life and Works of George Washington Carver - a hands-on program in the Everett Children's Adventure Garden that highlights the amazing achievements of this extraordinary plant advocate. In summer, be part of The Buzz About Bees, and explore the fascinating lives of these hard-working pollinators.
We are pleased to introduce Garden Adventure SEEDS 2, a complete curriculum unit on plant adaptations for grades 2 and 3. Like SEEDS 1 on plant parts for K and 1st grade, this unit contains hands-on, inquiry-based lessons, a class set of hand lenses, books, activity materials, and more, packed in a portable carrying case. It also includes two trips to the Everett Children's Adventure Garden and teacher professional development. Keep an eye out for SEEEDS 3, on plant-animal interactions for grades 5 and 6, to be launched in spring of 2006.
We have two new GreenSchool workshops - Amazing Adaptations, which offers an up-close look at unusual plants like insects-eating Venus flytraps and foul-smelling flowers, and Pollination Partners, which investigates the hows, whys, and whos of this important process.
As always, we look forward to seeing you at the Botanical Garden. With your needs to guide us, our rich educational programs are designed to inspire you and your students to investigate the amazing world of plants, explore nature, and discover the thrills of science.
Please note that on Wednesday, September 28th, The New York Botanical Garden's Children's Education Division will hold a FREE teacher's Open House from 4:00- 6:00 PM. Pleaser RSVP with our Registration Office via phone: 718.817.8181. We look forward to seeing you there!
